Belief is an idea in the belly of your mind that is so impressed there; that you respond / react to the information stored.  The ideas you hold in mind dictate the outcome of your life.  More is needed to anchor what is wanted. And if what you want is to dictate your life.. this will be in co-ordinance to all thought whether this is conscious or unconscious. 

Positive thinking can stand alone depending on what day it is... We have read the so many books.. yes yes yes.. optimistic approach.. "think positive" .. "things will get better"... "don't worry" and " things happen for a reason"  Oh yes and even watched the movie " The Secret"  

We get it on a conscious level; therefore taking this information and taking it as such.... where is the production of new results?   

We get it, accept it and move on but nothing really happens.
